I’ve never been a fan of the word “diet”. I believe we shouldn’t limit ourselves to anything we want to eat because what’s the point of that?!
Having said this, I have unintentionally participated in “The One Meal A Day Diet” or “OMAD diet” regularly while working in the Corporate World so wanted to share my thoughts on it.
First, this is probably one of the easiest diets to go on. The only thing that you have to do is limit yourself to one meal a day and generally, that meal will be dinner.
There is no planning or preparation involved. Take me for example, I didn’t even know I was on the diet – I was simply too busy at work and didn’t have time to eat until I got home!
The OMAD Diet doesn’t have any major rules or limitation that have to be followed. You can eat to your hearts content during one sitting – I know I sure did.
You don’t have to count calories or weigh your food to certain ounces.
Again, whatever you can consume during that one sitting is acceptable.
Now, what are the benefits and can you possibly lose weight with this diet?
In my experience, I was super hungry when I first missed meals. I didn’t get hangry but I was beyond hungry and the growling sounds my stomach made wasn’t music to my ears.
Gradually, the hunger subsides along with it, the growling sounds. My mind took over and I was laser focused on completing the tasks at hand and before I realized it, I forgot about food and didn’t even remember to be hungry if that makes any sense.
In that regard, I was super productive because I was like the energizer bunny and was always on the go.
I started noticing issues when I really didn’t even have much of an appetite during days when I was going out for lunch on client meetings.
Furthermore, when I started to go back to the gym, I just didn’t have the strength. I was perfectly fine when I was working myself mentally but physically was a different story – I didn’t have the energy.
Weight loss was a given. I was not consuming enough during my dinner to possibly gain weight. By the time I got home, I was so tired that I wanted to just shower up, quickly eat and rest up for the next day.
So what are my thoughts – I don’t recommend this diet! I took part unknowingly due to work commitments. This really isn’t something you should put your body through regularly or intentionally.
If your goal is to lose weight, I strongly recommend that you incorporate exercise into your lifestyle. Moderation is key if you happen to be someone that is trying to lose a few pounds.
Short term gain for long term pain should never be the preferred choice.
Your body needs food as fuel. You need to take care of your body so that you don’t run into any issues in the future.
Hope you found this helpful and always take care of yourself.
Here’s to good health!
