Yoga For Beginners: What You Should Know

I remember the first time I went to a Yoga class. My co-worker at the time was a complete “yogi” but told me she was just starting out and wanted me to go to a class with her to keep her company.

As soon as I walked into the studio, I was greeted by the front reception and was pretty much upsold to a month membership.

TIP 1: Check if the studio or gym that you’re going to offers free classes or trials before you commit to a membership.

It was the absolute worse experience ever! Everyone in the class was just doing their own thing – it totally didn’t feel like a class!

Some were doing headstands while others looked like they were meditating. For the amount that I paid, I was really expecting to learn something……anything.

TIP 2: Read the description of the class that you’re attending to ensure that it’s the right fit for you.

My membership was never used and my first impression of Yoga was horrible.

After that experience, I stuck to my Zoomba classes until one day, there was a scheduling mistake between the Instructors and my normal Zoomba class became a Yoga class.

This “mistake” was eye opening! From this class, I learned that Yoga was so much more than what I initially was exposed to.

TIP 3: Ask questions.

If there’s something in particular you want to work on or try, ask which classes will cover those areas. There are many types of Yoga classes that you can attend – not just one!

Formulate your opinion after trying out all the classes that are offered. You never know, you might enjoy all of them and become a complete Yogi yourself.
